2024 Emmys: Why Gillian Anderson and Peter Morgan Are Fueling Reconciliation Rumors

Gillian Anderson and Peter Morgan may no longer be members of the ex files.
After the Sex Education star and Crown creator—who split in 2020 following four years of dating—were spotted sitting next to each other in the audience during the 2024 Emmys, fans began speculating that they rekindled their romance. (Check out all the stars who stunned at the 2024 Emmys here.)
During the Sept. 15 awards show hosted by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater, the camera panned to Gillian—who rocked a metallic silver gown designed by Emilia Wickstead and accessorized with Martin Katz jewelry—sitting next to Peter, who was clad in a classic black suit, as he received a special shoutout during Crown star Elizabeth Debicki's acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
So, why is their seating arrangement significant? For one, the X Files actress—who met the screenwriter on the set of the Crown in 2016—likely wasn’t placed next to him for her role as Margaret Thatcher in the Netflix show, as she left the series in 2023 following the conclusion of season five. .
And fans were quick to point out that the two exes seemed to have reconnected, with one user asking on X, "Are Peter Morgan and Gillian Anderson back together? #Emmys."
E! News reached out to reps for Gillian and Peter for comment but has not heard back.
This isn't the first time Gillian and Peter have sparked speculation that they have reignited their relationship. Back in April 2023, the pair were photographed looking cozy together while attending a wrap party for The Crown season six.
And while neither have addressed the rumors publicly, Gillian has previously said that they worked hard to keep their romantic relationship separate from work.
"For our own sanity, and actually for the benefit of the relationship, we had very clear boundaries," the 56-year-old told Tatler in a November 2020 interview before noting that the couple abided by the rule, "'I am not going to comment on the script, but you are not allowed to comment on the performance!’"
